Recheck Appointments

  • You will need to schedule the recheck appointment or we may schedule it automatically – this will be indicated in your discharge instructions.
  • We will give you a reminder call for the appointment.
  • We will indicate if your pet needs to be dropped off or if this will be a short visit, with the full evaluation being performed while you are waiting.
  • Check what medications you have or need prior to coming for the appointment.
  • Your pet can eat the morning of this appointment, unless we specify otherwise.
    • If your pet requires an abdominal ultrasound or an anesthetic procedure, we will ask you not to feed your pet after 10pm the night before. Water is always allowed.
    • If your pet is diabetic, he/she should not be fasted – please inform our staff.
  • The following protocol was implemented due to COVID-related safety restrictions and may change unexpectedly. If you have been diagnosed with COVID in last 14 days, please reschedule your appointment.
  • Please remain in the car when you arrive and call us at 425-242-7005 to check-in
  • The receptionist will ask you standard questions regarding your pet's health since the last visit. Please let us know if there was any vomiting, diarrhea, decrease in appetite or activity or other sickness. Also, let us know if you need medication refills.
  • Please proceed to the check-in sign on the rail immediately. An oncology nurse will meet you there to take your pet in. We are not allowing pet owners in the building at this point (except at the initial appointment).
  • We will call you once your pet's visit is completed.
  • Payment by credit card will be processed over the phone. You can also choose to pay with cash or check. Then proceed to the check-in sign on the rail immediately. One of our nurses will bring your pet there. Please do not wait in the car.
  • If your pet needs to spend part of the day with us, your pet will be provided comfortable bedding, water and a litterbox for kitties. All dogs are walked multiple times. We also make time for some play and pet time with each of our patients. We typically do not feed them through the day, since each patient may be on a different diet. You are welcome to bring in a small snack for your pet.
  • All pets must be picked up by 6:00pm, unless special arrangements were made prior

Chemotherapy Appointments

  • Chemotherapy appointments are automatically scheduled and the date is indicated in the discharge instructions.

  • Chemotherapy patients need to be dropped-off between 7am and 9am and will spend a good part of the day with us.
  • Check what medications you have or need prior to coming for the appointment.

    • Your pet will be examined by Dr. Sarbu and vital parameters will be recorded.
    • Bloodwork is submitted to the lab in the morning.
    • Any other discussed diagnostic tests will be performed during the day.
    • Once results are available (around 2pm), we treat each of our patients, one at a time, to make sure that treatments are done in a safe manner for each patient.
  • During the day your pet is provided comfortable bedding, water and a litterbox for kitties. All dogs are walked multiple times. We also make time for loving time with each of our patients. We typically do not feed them through the day, since each patient may be on a different diet. You are welcome to bring in a small snack for your pet.
  • We do see multiple patients in any given day and the days can be unpredictable in length. Your pet’s health and safety is very important to us and we do not want to rush through the evaluations or treatments. We do give you a call when your pet is ready to go home.
  • All pets must be picked up by 6:00pm.

The Initial Appointment

  • Fill out the Client Information and Patient History form prior to the appointment and email it back to us.
  • We typically ask you not to feed your pet that morning, in case that certain procedures such as anesthesia or an abdominal ultrasound are necessary as part of your pet’s evaluation
    • Water is always allowed
    • If your pet is diabetic, please inform our staff at the time you set up the appointment. We will likely ask you to feed your pet as usual.
    • Once the evaluation are done or deemed not necessary, we do have yummy foods your pet can eat or you can bring in a small meal (especially if your pet is on a special diet or has allergies)
  • Please arrive 15 minutes prior to your appointment. You must bring in your pet.
  • Please bring in your pet’s medications and be aware of the doses he/she is receiving, as well as when the last dose was given
  • The initial consultation takes about one hour.

  • One of the oncology nurses will then call you to review your pet’s medical history
  • The nurse will then invite you and your pet in the building and place you in an exam room
  • The nurse will take your pet in the treatment area to measure your pet’s vital parameters.
  • Dr. Sarbu will review all the available information regarding your pet and examine your pet
  • Dr. Sarbu will discuss the findings and recommendations with you in the exam room. We want to make sure that you are well informed about all the options, so you can make the best decision regarding the care of your pet
    • All the information discussed will also be provided in writing
    • Should additional questions arise later, you can always email or call Dr. Sarbu for additional clarifications
    • Your regular veterinarian will be kept informed of everything discussed. A copy of the report and any tests performed at Veterinary Oncology Center will be faxed to him/her.
  • If additional diagnostic tests are indicated, we may be able to perform them the same day. In this case, you pet may spend part of the day with us. Depending on the nature of the tests, you may also be referred to another facility. A cost estimate will be provided prior to performing any tests at Veterinary Oncology Center.
  • We do not have the ability to hospitalize patients overnight or treat critical patients. If you pet requires hospitalization or is critical, we will refer you to a nearby emergency facility
